What is hand-stripping and why is it essential?

Unlike breeds that are clipped with a machine, wire-haired dogs have a specific hair growth cycle. Their hair does not fall out on its own – it remains in the skin, where it dies. If this old coat is not removed, it clogs the pores, leading to irritation, itching, and loss of the coat's protective function.

​Hand-stripping is the process of gently pulling out mature hair. It is a painless procedure (if performed at the right time), thanks to which the skin can breathe freely and new, healthy hair can grow.

Hand-stripping is a demanding manual technique that we perform in our salon with maximum precision for all wire-haired breeds. For a better idea of the result, you can look at our transformations of Jack Russell Terriers, where the difference after grooming is most noticeable:

• Broken type (broken coat): The coat is shorter and flatter. In the photos of our clients, you can see that after professional hand-stripping, the dog looks groomed and almost smooth, yet retains its hard protective barrier.

• Rough type (rough coat): These "teddy bears" quickly lose their silhouette without regular care. Our "before and after" transformations of the rough type show how the dog's athletic physique stands out after removing the excess old coat.
